Verizon Wild Rift
We launched the 5G iPhone during a pandemic with a celeb video game tournament
that became one of the biggest streams in Twitch Rivals history.
The Full Story
Verizon wanted to use the launch of the first 5G-enabled iPhone to show how their new network transforms mobile devices into console-grade gaming platforms. For the first time, it was possible to play any game any where with no loss in quality. The only problem? The entire world was locked down, thanks to a global pandemic.
So we created the Wild Rift Invitational: a celebrity-studded, socially-distanced esports tournament run entirely on the iPhone 12 Pro over Verizon’s 5G network. Working entirely remotely, we transformed a Hollywood backlot into a city block infused with video game elements, showing how 5G brings the digital world to life wherever you are.
We brought fans in on the action by allowing them to choose each players character and team via the Twitch livestream. 2.1 million gamers joined us for the event, the 2nd biggest Twitch Rivals stream in history.
